Yoga and Meditation
GENERAL INFORMATION
What type of yoga do I teach?
All of my classes, workshops, and retreats are gentle and accessible to all bodies. While some classes are held primarily on the floor and others are more active, the yoga is slow with variations offered (with and without supportive props) to meet individual needs. People are encouraged to approach their practice with a balance of effort (stirha) and ease (sukha), as they deepen their awareness of mind, body, and breath in the present moment.
It is important that my offerings meet the needs and interests of our local and broader community, so I listen to requests and collect information through occasional surveys. Descriptions of my current offerings can be found using the tabs in the menu above.
I teach from a perspective that honours both the traditional and the contemporary. My Yoga and Buddhist practices are deeply rooted in ancient texts and teachings that have been passed down through lineages to my own teachers. My Yoga is informed by TKV Desikachar, BKS Iyengar, and Vanda Scaravelli, while my Tibetan Buddhist teacher is Zasep Tulku Rinpoche.

What about breath work and meditation?
Breath work (pranayama) and meditation are incorporated into all of my classes. These practices help to regulate our nervous systems, enabling us to find a sense of ease, peace and calm within our minds/hearts. We learn a variety of techniques that can be used both on the mat and off the mat in every day life. Breath work and meditation can lead to deep personal insights and a deeper understanding of our habitual thought patterns. 'Mindfulness' becomes grounded in 'mind training' through breath work and meditation.
Are my classes a good fit for you?
My classes are suitable for bodies of all ages and shapes, from the inflexible to flexible, for beginners and those with years of Yoga experience. Each person is in their own world when they step onto their mat, exploring their mind, body, and breath through guided movements that are within their personal range in that moment. Yoga props are used to provide support, comfort, and deepening within the poses. We learn how anatomy informs our range of motion, as well as Yoga and Buddhist concepts to consider within our practice and daily life. It is my hope that you also find greater ease and range of motion as you garden, play golf, or simply reach down to tie your shoes.
Please enjoy a free class if you are new to my classes, or if you aren't sure if a particular class is a good fit for you.
